In
resort towns such as Huatulco you’ll be able to use U.S. currency in
addition to Mexican pesos. If you plan to do some exploring
though, you’ll need pesos.
So,
where to change your money? The most convenient place is the
international airport you’re departing from or Mexico City
International Airport. The exchange rates are comparatively
reasonable for the ease they provide. Another option is to use a
Mexican atm. There are several atm machines located throughout
the Huatulco area.

If you don’t have an atm card you can exchange money at a casa de cambio. You
can also go to a Mexican Bank. Most banks in Huatulco are located
in Santa Cruz. You can get a good exchange rate, but you often
have a long wait in line also Mexican banks have short hours of
operation. And remember, don’t get excited by your posted bank
balance; it’s usually reported in Pesos.
Visa
and MasterCard are widely accepted throughout Mexico. American
Express to a lesser extent. In out of the way places don’t expect
to be able to use them. Your individual Credit Card Company will
post the exchange rate of the day and charge accordingly, this will be
reflected on your statement.
