The area is comprised of nine scenic bays: Bahias Violin, Conejos, Chahue, Santa Cruz, Entrega, Maguey, Organo, Cacaluta and San Agustin, hence, Bahias de Huatulco.

The beauty of the area stems from its location at the foot of the Sierra Madre del Sir range, as well as the rugged geography of the mountains, hills, and valleys adored by the Coyula, San Agustin, and Copalita rivers.
