Surfing in Huatulco Mexico's Pacific Ocean

Huatulco is not known as a surfing and skim boarding destination, however, surfers have been observed catching a wave or two at the quaint beachfront community of La Bocana.  Surf and boogie boards can be rented at the local beachfront restaurants as well as a cold beer or soda to wash down the salt water.

Jet skiing, sailing, wind surfing or sea kayaking are available at Tangolunda Bay, Santa Cruz Marina and La Entrega Surfing or “acuaplano” in the native language, is a favorite pastime of locals and tourists. You will have to travel a bit to get to the biggest and best surfing conditions. The first Huatulco surfing and boogie board contest was held May 1, 2003 at Copalita beach. You can learn to surf by contacting any of the schools. Or if you are an experienced surfer, you’ll want to go to the mouth of the Rio Copalita, which is the only surfing location near Huatulco. Puerto Escondido is a world-class surfing destination 2 hours west of Huatulco, favored by experienced surfers.
